I’m doing my usual Saturday morning thing, watching Melissa Harris-Perry (if you haven’t seen her show, you really should, she’s on MSNBC on Saturday and Sunday mornings, from 10 am-Noon EST)
Today, one of the numerous guests, that MH-P usually has on each week, is Mona Eltahawy, who has written quite the controversial article for Foreign Press magazine about the treatment of women in the Muslim world.
To be honest, I didn’t know how controversial it was until MH-P brought on Leila Ahmed from Harvard University to counter-point Eltahawy. It was cordial, it was polite, Elthaway gushed about Ahmed being her hero and Ahmed practically threw out hosannas to Elthaway. Like I said, they were respectful with one another but I wouldn’t expect them to get gully like they were on a Housewives reunion show but, I betcha by golly wow, take them out to dinner and get a few drinks in them, they would start dropping f-bombs and finger pointing like they were Congressmen fighting for lunch money.
So, I decided to do a little more research on the article and started right here on Tumblr by searching the tags for “Mona Eltahawy”
Um…damn, didn’t even have to Google, the block is hot right here.
Here’s a nice list of articles and discussions the article and Eltahawy in general.
